Washington Wizards’ Marcin Gortat revealed during media day on Monday just how competitive his former teammate Paul Pierce can be, especially with his rival, LeBron James.
According to the Washington Post, Gortat said that Pierce didn’t let his Wizards’ teammates wear James’ shoes to practice last season.
Pierce, now a Clipper, had had numerous epic battles with James. The Cleveland Cavaliers’ superstar has even credited Pierce for helping him become the player he is today.
One of the best Pierce-James showdowns undoubtedly was when the Boston Celtics and Cavaliers met in the second round of the playoffs in 2008. In Game 7, James had 45 points, and Pierce had 41. Check it out.
Since Pierce joined the Clippers in July, his new teammates have already been awed by how fierce of a competitor he is on the court.
Said J.J. Redick: “He’s a great teammate. I think he makes the environment more competitive. He gives a certain juice and swagger.”
It remains to be seen whether the Clippers will be permitted to wear James’ sneakers.
