Mike Trout saves the Angels with walk-off home run against Astros

KEY MOMENT: Mike Trout led off the ninth inning with the game tied at six. With the count at 0-2, he hit a slider over the wall near the waterfall for a 7-6 win, sending the Angels home with a walk-off victory on the Fourth of July. It was the club’s 24th come-from-behind victory this season.

ON THE MOUND: Angels starter C.J. Wilson was roughed up again. In his last three starts, he’s given up a combined 16 earned runs and 23 hits. On Friday, he gave up seven hits, which translated into six runs, and was chased out of the game in the fifth inning. The Astros hit three home runs off him, including two in a five-run fourth inning. Relievers Cory Rasmus, Mike Morin and Joe Smith shut out the Astros the rest of the way.

AT THE PLATE: The Angels got 13 hits against Astros starter Dallas Keuchel, but stranded six runners and could score only five runs before Keuchel left after five innings. They ended up with 16 hits, including four from second baseman Howie Kendrick.

EXTRA BASES: Before the game, Angels Manager Mike Scioscia said that relief pitcher Fernando Salas began a rehab assignment with Class-A Inland Empire on Friday. Salas has been on the disabled list since June 15 because of right shoulder inflammation and, according to Scioscia, probably won’t throw more than 20 pitches. … Wilson passed 1,100 career strikeouts Friday. … Albert Pujols surpassed Gary Sheffield on the all-time home run list, smacking the 510th of his career to move into sole possession of 24th place. He needs one more to move into a tie with Mel Ott for 23rd.
