C.J. Wilson has short outing in Angels’ 13-3 loss to Astros

KEY MOMENT: With two on and two outs in the second inning, Astros rookie shortstop Carlos Correa drove a full-count pitch from C.J. Wilson to deep left field for a three-run homer -- his fourth in 15 games this season -- and a 4-0 lead, setting the tone on a night Houston racked up 16 hits, seven for extra bases.

AT THE PLATE: Correa had a single, homer and double through four innings but was hitless in three more at-bats, falling short of a cycle. Astros third baseman Luis Valbuena singled and homered twice, a solo shot to right-center in the fourth and a two-run shot to right in the fifth, giving him 19 homers -- and a .195 average -- this season. Former Angels catcher Hank Conger had three hits. Efren Navarro had three hits, including a two-run single in the fourth, for the Angels.

ON THE MOUND: Wilson, who gave up one run, struck out 17 and walked three in 15 innings of two previous starts, had his worst and shortest outing of the season, giving up seven runs and eight hits, including two homers, in 3 1/3 innings, with three strikeouts, two walks, a hit batter, wild pitch and a balk. Astros right-hander Collin McHugh gave up two runs and nine hits in eight innings, striking out six and walking one to improve to 8-3 with a 4.80 earned-run average.

REHAB REPORT: Reliever Mike Morin (left rib-cage strain) gave up one hit and struck out one in an inning of an Arizona Summer League game Monday. He will join triple-A Salt Lake Wednesday. … Right-hander Nick Tropeano, out since May 26 because of a sore shoulder, will return to the Salt Lake rotation Friday.
