College Roundup: UCI’s Baek takes third

DALTON, Nev. — UC Irvine freshman Sarah Baek finished third individually to help the Anteaters finish second at the Wolf Pack Classic, completed Tuesday at the Dalton Valley Golf Club.
Baek, playing in her first collegiate tournament, shot 76 Tuesday after posting a 69 to gain the lead on Monday.
UCI senior Lalita Patipaksiri was seventh (151) and freshman Michelle Yang tied for 10th at 152. Sophomore Ronnie Valerio was tied for 17th at 154.
The Anteaters shot 304 on the final 18 holes and their 602 score over 36 holes was four shots behind San Francisco.
UCI competes in a tournament at New Mexico State on Oct. 10-12.

Vanguard 1, Concordia 1
IRVINE — The Lions benefited from an own goal to take a 1-0 lead in a Golden State Athletic Conference game that included two scoreless overtimes Tuesday.
No. 4-ranked Concordia (9-1-1, 1-0-1 in conference) got the equalizer in the 76th minute.
Unranked Vanguard (8-1-1, 0-1-1) had six shots to the Eagles’ five.
Lauren Terry had two saves for the Lions, who play host to Hope International on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Azusa Pacific def. Vanguard
AZUSA — KaUwila led the No. 22-ranked Lions with 10 kills, as No. 8 APU won the Golden State Athletic Conference match, 25-17, 25-17, 25-11.
Jamie Heenan had eight kills and 13 digs for Vanguard (14-8, 3-4 in conference).
The Cougars are 18-4, 5-2.
