Briefs: Stalder wins tournament
Costa Mesa resident Reese Stalder won a boys’ 14 doubles title Tuesday at a USTA national tournament at Woodbridge Tennis Club in Irvine.
Stalder won with his partner, Rafael Lenhard of Carlsbad. The No. 2 seeds defeated No. 7-seeded Max Pham of Newport Coast and Ryan Cheng of San Marino, 8-6, in the championship match.
Stalder is ranked No. 3 in Southern California in boys’ 14 doubles. He will be a freshman at Newport Harbor High in the fall.
His older sister Samantha, who will be a junior at Harbor, is in the semifinals of the Chapman tournament this weekend.

Kids Tennis Play Day coming Saturday
From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday The Tennis Club Newport Beach will be reserved for kids.
The Newport Beach Breakers will play host to Kids Tennis Play Day at Breakers Stadium. The youth tennis event is a product of a USTA and World Team Tennis partnership in an effort to promote tennis to children 10 and under.
The Breakers plan to have the youth, “enjoy tennis in a fun, non-threatening competitive environment,†according to a press release.
Kids Tennis Play Day will kick off the featured match against the Sacramento Capitals.
The tennis for children 10 and under will have equipment and courts scaled to kids’ size. Racquets are shorter and lighter, and the courts are smaller.
