All-League Baseball Teams
Orange Coast League
Estancia High senior pitcher Tyler De la Peña and junior center fielder Alex Trancoso received much deserved recognition for leading the baseball team to its first playoff win in 19 years.
De la Peña and Trancoso each earned first-team All-Orange Coast League honors after Estancia beat host Anaheim, 5-3, in a CIF Southern Section Division IV wild-card game. De la Peña and Trancoso led the Eagles (14-13, 8-7 in league) to their second straight postseason appearance.
De la Peña started on the mound in both of the Eagles’ postseason games this season. His best outing in the playoffs was in a 4-1 loss at top-seeded Palm Desert in the first round, where he shut out the Aztecs in five of the six innings he worked.
Coach Matt Sorensen said De la Peña posted a 2.50 earned-run average and recorded three complete games.
Trancoso hit .321 with 11 runs batted in and a team-best two home runs. He had a .444 slugging percentage and a .411 on-base percentage.
Estancia senior designated hitter Victor Trujillo, sophomore shortstop Tyler Rios and junior second baseman/pitcher Andres Hernandez each made the second-team all-league.
Senior pitchers PJ Maloney and Tyler Sheffner were second-team picks from Costa Mesa (10-15, 5-10).
Laguna Beach’s Chris Paul earned the Orange Coast League MVP award and Laguna Beach’s Keaton Jones was the Orange Coast League Pitcher of the Year.

Academy League
Sage Hill School senior Jack Heffron excelled at the plate and on the mound. The left-hander’s reward for standing out is first-team All-Academy League honors in baseball.

Heffron hit .516 with 21 runs batted in, seven doubles and four triples. He had a .750 slugging percentage and a .575 on-base percentage. He scored 21 runs, and stole six of seven bases.
As a pitching ace, Heffron finished with a .277 earned-run average and a 3-4 record. He struck out 65 batters in 48 1/3 innings.
Sage Hill senior Allen Brown, senior Michael Yorita and junior Brandon Zelner made the second team.
