‘Eaters capture spoils
Junior defender CoCo Goodson and senior goalkeeper Danielle de Seriere, who helped the UC Irvine women’s soccer team clinch the program’s first Big West Conference title, have been named conference players of the week.
Goodson, who scored two game-winning goals in a pair of 1-0 wins over Big West rivals UC Riverside (Sunday) and Long Beach State (Thursday), is Offensive Player of the Week. She scored in the 43rd minute at Long Beach State and found the net for the sixth time this season in the 52nd minute against the visiting Highlanders.
Goodson was also named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week.
The two wins upped the No. 15-ranked Anteaters’ record to 15-1-2, 7-0 in conference. With one regular-season conference game remaining, UCI’s 21 points are unbeatable in the conference standings.
The two shutouts gave de Seriere 10 for the season, a single-season school record. The Defensive Player of the Week’s 30 career shutouts also rank No. 1 in school annals. She had five combined saves in the two games.

Two ‘Eaters honored
UC Irvine seniors Corey Attaway and Amani Walker were both recognized in men’s soccer Monday.
Attaway a defender, was named to the National Team of the Week by TopDrawerSoccer.com, while Walker, a forward, shared Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Attaway had two goals and an assist in conference wins over Cal State Fullerton (Saturday) and Cal State Northridge (Wednesday).
Walker scored two goals on four shots in the two games and leads the No. 8-ranked squad (12-1-2, 5-0-1 in conference) in goals (nine) and points (20).

Kearney reaches semis
UC Irvine junior Chris Kearney reached the semifinals in singles and doubles at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional men’s tennis championships.
Kearney fell to top-seeded Daniel Nguyen of USC, 6-5, 6-0, Saturday at UCI.
Kearney and Sam Gould fell, 8-5, to a tandem from USC in a doubles semifinal Saturday.

Redding stands out
Matthew Redding, a former football standout at Estancia High who played two seasons at Orange Coast College, caught two touchdown passes Oct. 23, including the game-winner in overtime, to help Lindsborg College to a 41-35 triumph over Southwestern of Kansas.
Redding, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior tight end for the Swedes, had four receptions for 56 yards in the game. He caught a 17-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and fielded a 12-yard scoring strike in overtime.
In five games for the Swedes (4-2, 3-2 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Assn.), an NAIA school, Redding had 14 receptions for 270 yards.
Redding earned All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division honors as a senior at Estancia in the fall of 2006. He caught 44 passes for 1,045 yards and 12 touchdowns and also rushed for two scores to help the Eagles finish 7-4 and set a school single-season record with 361 points.
He represented Estancia in the Orange County All-Star Game.
