Local club hosting lacrosse tryouts
HB Starz Lacrosse Club is fielding two boys’ lacrosse teams — Youth (sixth-grade) and Middle School (7th/8th-grade) — for the upcoming season. Both teams will be coached by Huntington Beach High lacrosse Coach Brian Dunn.
Tryouts are Oct. 24 at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex. The Youth division tryout is 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by the Middle School division tryout from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The club’s new season starts up in November. For more information, visit https://www.starzlax.com.

Seahawks still No. 10, Chargers fall out of poll
The Ocean View High football team held down the No. 10 spot in the CIF Southern Section Southern Division rankings for a second straight week. Santa Ana Valley continues to hold down the No. 1 spot, followed by Garden Grove, Loara, Segerstrom, Beckman, Corona del Mar, Santiago/Garden Grove, Northwood and Woodbridge. Both Loara and Segerstrom are Golden West League rivals of Ocean View.
Edison was dropped from the top 10 in the Pac-5 Division poll following a 27-7 loss last week to Mater Dei. The Chargers, ranked seventh last week, have lost their last two games. Mission Viejo continues to lead the Pac-5 poll.
In girls’ volleyball, Edison is ranked eighth in the Division 1-AA poll. Harvard-Westlake leads the poll and is followed by Long Beach Poly, Los Alamitos, Mira Costa, Redondo Union, Lakewood, Newport Harbor, Edison, Dos Pueblos and Santa Margarita.

Youth water polo registration open
Fall registration is open for Huntington Beach Water Polo Club. The club is available to beginning- to- advanced players and divisions are as follows: 10-and-Under Coed; 12U Girls, 12U Boys, 14U Girls, 14U Boys, 16U Girls, 16U Boys, 18U Girls and 18U Boys.

Distance Derby date set
The 56th annual Distance Derby, the oldest race in Orange County, will be held Oct. 23 at Pier Plaza. The 10-mile run starts at 7 a.m. The five-mile run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Surf Kids Fun Run at 10 a.m.
The event benefits Project Self Sufficiency. Registration will be accepted the morning of the race starting at 6 a.m. For more information, call the Huntington Beach Community Services Department at (714) 536-5486.
