Taylor collects honor
UC Irvine senior forward Tanya Taylor amassed two goals and three assists in the Anteaters’ 6-0 Big West Conference women’s soccer win over visiting UC Davis Sunday on her way to earning Big West Offensive Player of the Week laurels.
Taylor, who drew the foul that produced the game-winning free kick in the second overtime against conference visitor Pacific on Friday, tied a school single-game record with the three assists against the Aggies.
She leads the Anteaters (10-1-2, 2-0 in conference), ranked No. 20 in the Soccer America poll released Monday, with eight goals and six assists in 2010. She leads the Big West in goals and assists.
Lexi Kopf, Dana Sanderlin, Mar Rodriguez and Jordan Kopf also had goals for UCI on Sunday, when senior goalie Danielle de Seriere had six saves to post her sixth shutout of the season.

LOS ANGELES — No. 5-ranked UC Irvine defeated No. 6-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 8-4, in the third-place game Sunday at UCLA.
The Anteaters (10-3) were defeated, 8-6, by No. 2-ranked UCLA in the semifinals on Sunday.
Mitch Wise had three goals and Matt Johnson had nine saves against UCSB.

TULSA, Okla. — UC Irvine junior Chris Kearney won two matches in the pre-qualifying draw to advance to the qualifying singles round that began Monday at the Case Tennis Center.
Kearney, a transfer from North Carolina, and Steven Henderson begin doubles play today.
Henderson and UCI teammate Sam Gould each lost singles matches Sunday.
