Corona del Mar High senior outside hitters Weston Nielsen and Joey Booth shared the Pacific Coast League MVP honor in boys’ volleyball after helping the Sea Kings win their eighth straight PCL championship.

Nielsen and Booth also led CdM (23-9, 10-0 in league) to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Nielsen, who is headed to UC Santa Barbara, led the Sea Kings with 294 kills and he finished with 122 digs, 49 blocks and 37 service aces.

The USC-bound Booth recorded 247 kills, 120 digs, 36 blocks and 31 aces.

Sophomore opposite Parker Brown, junior middle blocker Spencer Haly and junior middle blocker Evan Dean each earned first-team laurels.

Brown recorded 397 assists, 134 kills, 94 digs, 33 blocks and 33 aces.

Haly led CdM with 59 blocks and he had 113 kills.

Dean had 107 kills and 47 blocks.

Members of the second team included senior opposite John Christian, junior setter Nick Curci and junior libero Brennan Anderson.

CdM’s Attyah, Morris earn all-league honors

Corona del Mar High senior catcher Beau Attyah and junior pitcher Eric Morris each earned first-team All-Pacific Coast League laurels after helping the baseball team share second place in league.

Attyah hit .400 and led CdM (11-17, 7-8 in league) in home runs (six), runs batted in (29), hits (38), slugging percentage (.653) and runs (24). He had six doubles and was four of six in stolen-base attempts.

Morris went 6-4 with a 2.60 earned-run average. He struck out 37 in 642/3 innings and recorded three complete games. As a hitter, Morris went five for 12 (.417).

This is the first time Attyah and Morris made the first team.

CdM juniors Will Morrow and Brian Ford received second-team recognition.

Beckman’s Brandon Trinkwon and James Kaprielian earned the league’s MVP and pitcher of the year awards, respectively.

CdM’s Susolik, Varner honored in league

Corona del Mar High sophomore Lindsay Susolik and senior Ashley Varner each earned second-team All-Pacific Coast League honors in softball.

Susolik led the Sea Kings in batting average (.482), runs batted in (21), runs (17) and doubles (six) and home runs (one).

Varner hit .323 with eight RBIs, three doubles and one triple.

Kylee Lahners of Laguna Hills was named the league’s MVP. Laguna Hills’ Terry Rahe was the pitcher of the year.

CdM girls recognized in lacrosse

Corona del Mar High midfielder Gabby Smith, goalie Zoe Salaam and attacker Hilary Bush each made first-team All-Pacific Coast League in girls’ lacrosse.

The trio helped the Sea Kings (12-5, 8-2 in league) to a runner-up finish in league and a berth into the U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Smith, a sophomore, led CdM with 29 goals and 15 assists. She was second on the team with 16 groundballs.

Salaam, a senior, made 71 saves had a 66.3 saves percentage. For her career, she finished with 561 saves.

Bush, a senior, finished with 25 goals, eight assists and eight groundballs.

Senior defender Jessica Smith and senior midfielder Madison McHam were second-team picks.

Junior attacker Rhylie Nese and Kylie Mulvaney each received honorable mention.
