Mayfair 4, Sage Hill 3, eight innings

LAKEWOOD — After winning the CIF Southern Section Division 6 title last year, the Lightning got eliminated in extra innings in the wild-card round of the Division 3 playoffs on Tuesday.

Sage Hill (21-5-2) lost in walk-off fashion, giving up a run in the eighth inning.

Sage Hill had to play a wild-card game after losing its final two Academy League games last week, finishing in second place behind Crean Lutheran.

Edward Pelc went four for four with two runs for the Lightning.

Brett Super got the start and went 6 1/3 innings, giving up two earned runs and five hits while striking out five and walking four.

Super was two for four with a run.

Ocean View 4, Bellflower 3

Miguel Abascal’s walk-off hit with two outs lifted the host Seahawks out of the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs on Tuesday.

Abascal’s infield single drove in Ronny Evans from third base.

Ocean View rallied late, scoring three runs in the sixth to tie it at 3-3.

Adam Carles went the distance for Ocean View.

The Seahawks (18-12) play at Crean Lutheran (23-4) in the first round on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Estancia 12, Pomona Garey 1

Eagles coach Michael Hunter celebrated a birthday over the weekend, but he said his present arrived on Tuesday with his first playoff win as the head of Estancia High softball.

Emily Kubisty went three for four with a double and three RBI to lead the charge in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs wild-card round.

Kalena Shepherd also had a double and two RBIs as part of a three-hit game, as the Eagles’ leaders stepped up when it mattered.

Brittany Walker ran her record to 14-10, allowing one run on just three hits. She struck out three.

Estancia will travel to face Pasadena Poly at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. That game will open the main draw of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 softball bracket.
