BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Corona del Mar def. Alemany
UCLA junior commit Kevin Kobrine finished with 12 kills, helping the No. 3-seeded Sea Kings to a 25-22, 25-14, 25-14 sweep in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs at home on Tuesday.
The Sea Kings (27-3) play at San Clemente (26-7) in the second round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Newport Harbor def. Dana Hills
UCLA junior commit Cole Pender produced 15 kills in the No. 4-seeded Sailors’ 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 sweep in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs at home on Tuesday.
Ethan Talley had nine kills for Newport Harbor.
The Sailors (26-3) play host to Manhattan Beach Mira Costa in the second round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Edison def. Trabuco Hills
MISSION VIEJO — The Chargers swept host Trabuco Hills, 25-13, 25-12, 25-18, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs on Tuesday.
Edison (18-12) plays host to Beckman (32-4) in the second round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Huntington Beach def. Canyon
ANAHEIM — Mitchell Bollinger had 17 kills for the Oilers in a 25-21, 26-24, 25-21 sweep in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs on the road Tuesday.
Alex Anastassiades and Noah Franklin each contributed 12 kills.
Huntington Beach (23-10) plays at home against Burbank Burroughs (17-13) in the second round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Laguna Beach def. Cathedral
Pete Obradovich recorded 19 kills, three service aces and five digs in the host Breakers’ 25-21, 25-15, 25-12 win in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs on Tuesday.
Laguna Beach (19-4) plays host to Mater Dei (29-3) in the second round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Westminster def. Estancia
WESTMINSTER — Westminster beat the visiting Eagles, 25-16, 25-13, 20-25, 25-21, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs on Tuesday.
Estancia ended the year at 11-10.
St. Anthony def. Sage Hill
LONG BEACH — Josh Lee had 13 kills for the Lightning in the match that host Long Beach St. Anthony won, 25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs on Tuesday.
Logan Senn added 13 kills for Sage Hill (10-14).
BOYS’ TENNIS
Costa Mesa 12, Temescal Canyon 6
The Mustangs, making their first postseason appearance since 2011, won the CIF Southern Section Division 5 wild-card match Tuesday at Costa Mesa High.
Costa Mesa, the second-place finisher from the Orange Coast League, will play at Magnolia in a Division 5 first-round match Wednesday. Magnolia is the top-seeded team in the division.
BASEBALL
Northwood 5, Corona del Mar 1
The Sea Kings were still able to clinch at least a share of the Pacific Coast League title as Beckman also lost on Tuesday.
Chazz Martinez went two for four with a double, for CdM, which also clinched the PCL’s No. 1 seed.
The Sea Kings will play at Northwood on Thursday with a win needed to win the league title outright.
Laguna Beach 5, Estancia 0
Jake McIntyre, Trevor Brown and Jeff Alai (double) had one hit each for the Eagles (16-11, 9-5 in the Orange Coast League).
Adam Auriemma (4-2) pitched five innings giving up three runs on four hits for Estancia, which plays host to Laguna Beach Wednesday at 7 p.m. at TeWinkle Park to close out the regular season.
