College Roundup: UCI’s Saeta teams with USC’s Yoder to win USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships

MEN’S BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Collegiate championships

HERMOSA BEACH – UC Irvine senior Michael Saeta teamed with USC senior Lucas Yoder to win the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships on Saturday near the Hermosa Beach Pier.

Saeta and Yoder defeated UCLA seniors Jackson Bantle and Hagen Smith, 21-16, 21-13, in a 34-minute final.

UCI senior Dillon Hoffman and teammate Reid Dominguez, a UCI junior, lost in the quarterfinals on Friday.

WOMEN’S BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Collegiate championships

HERMOSA BEACH – Costa Mesa resident Sara Hughes and USC senior teammate Kelly Claes were victorious in a 68-minute final at the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships on Saturday near the Hermosa Beach Pier.

Hughes and Claes defeated USC teammates Terese Cannon and Nicolette Martin, 19-21, 21-13, 15-11, to claim the crown.

BASEBALL

Hawaii 6, UC Irvine 2

HONOLULU – Adrian Damla went two for four to lead the visiting Anteaters’ six-hit attack in the Big West Conference series opener on Friday.

Christian Koss was one for four with an RBI and Parker Coss added an RBI for UCI (17-30, 4-12 in conference).

Hawaii is 26-17, 8-8.

The series resumes Sunday and concludes Monday.
