Luke Hussung went three for four with a home run and four runs batted in to lead the host Pirates to a sweep of the best-of-three Southern California Regional playoff series on Saturday.
Ryan Randel allowed seven hits in six shutout innings to earn the win for the No. 1-seeded Pirates (33-9), who advance to the best-of-three Super Regional series beginning Friday at home against an opponent to be determined.
Travis Moniot, Robert Teel and Jacob Doty had two hits apiece, while Moniot also stole a base for the winners.
Southwestern finished 26-17.
UC Irvine 8, Cal State Northridge 4
The host Anteaters scored five runs in the eighth inning on only one hit to rally for the victory in the Big West Conference game Saturday.
Adam Alcantara was two for three with three runs batted in to lead the Anteaters (17-27, 4-10 in conference), who evened the series at one game apiece.
Keston Hiura was one for two and was walked intentionally three times (a school record), while Alex Guenette was three for three with two runs and a stolen base.
Parker Coss drove in three runs and Devin Pettengill was two for three with a stolen base for UCI.
Andre Pallante earned the win to improve to 5-3.
The Matadors are 22-25, 9-8.
The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
