Olympian Aaron Peirsol to be special guest during annual Athletic Awards Dinner

The 56th annual Athletic Awards Dinner, hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, is at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Radisson Hotel Newport Beach, 4545 MacArthur Blvd. The event recognizes top athletes for Corona del Mar, Newport Harbor and Sage Hill high schools. Aaron Peirsol — the former Newport Harbor High standout swimmer who went on to win seven Olympic medals, including five golds — will be the special guest speaker during the event. Below is a list of the 36 student-athletes who will be honored.

Corona del Mar High School

Alyaa Abdulghany

Sport: Golf

Honors: Won the CIF State individual championship in 2015, setting the woman’s course record at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach with a two-under-par 69 performance. Named to the U.S. team for the Junior Ryder Cup in Minnesota in 2016. Represented the U.S. at the World Junior Golf Championships in Canada in 2015. Placed second at the 19th Nick Faldo Series Grand Final in Germany in 2015.

Mason Crane

Sport: Track and field

Honors: Named the Pacific Coast League MVP in 2017. Named an alterante for the CF Southern Section Masters Meet in 2017. Won the discus throw at the Orange County Championships in 2017.

Jasie Dunk

Sport: Tennis, soccer

Honors: Shared the Orange County Tennis Player of the Year award in 2016. Made the Daily Pilot Tennis Dream Team in 2016. Won the Pacific Coast League singles championship in 2016, finishing 40-3 in singles play. Won the league doubles championship in 2015.

Brooke Franson

Sport: Softball

Honors: Made the Daily Pilot Softball Dream Team in 2015 and 2016. Earned first-team All-Pacific Coast League honors in 2015 and second-team all-league honors in 2016.

Chase Garbers

Sport: Football, basketball

Honors: Named the Daily Pilot Football Dream Team Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016. Earned All-CIF Southern Section Division 4, All-Orange County first team, Cal-Hi Sport All-State Medium Schools first team and MaxPreps California Medium Schools All-State first team honors in football in 2016. Named the Pacific Coast League MVP in football in 2015 and 2016. Won the CIF State Division III football title in 2013. Won league football titles from 2013-16, and a basketball league championship in 2017.

Leah Givant

Sport: Soccer

Honors: Helped CdM win Pacific Coast League titles in 2013-14 and 2016-17. Made the Daily Pilot Soccer Dream Team and the Pacific Coast League first team in 2016, and earned second-team all-league honors in 2017.

Sachin Gokhale

Sport: Lacrosse

Honors: Named a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American in 2016 and 2017. Made the U.S Lacrosse All-Orange County first team in 2017 and the second team in 2016. Helped CdM win the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division title in 2016.

Mitch Haly

Sport: Volleyball, football, basketball

Honors: Helped CdM win the CIF Southern Section Division 1 volleyball title in 2017, after runner-up finishes in 2015 and 2016. Part of the CdM football team that won the CIF State Division III title in 2013, and the one that finished runner-up in the CIF Southern Section Division 4 final in 2016. Made the All-Pacific Coast League first team in boys’ volleyball in 2016. Won league titles in football, basketball and volleyball during the 2016-17 school year.

Leif Hellgren

Sport: Cross-country, track and field

Honors: Won the Pacific Coast League individual cross-country championship in 2016. Won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter track and field events in league in 2015 and 2016. Made the Daily Pilot Cross-Country Dream Team in 2016.

Joyce Grant

Sport: Soccer, baseball, football

Honors: Named the Pacific Coast League MVP and earned All-CIF Southern Section Division 2, All-Orange County first team and Daily Pilot Dream Team honors in soccer in 2017. Part of the CdM soccer and baseball teams that won league titles in 2017.

Sarah Lawson

Sport: Water polo, swimming

Honors: Made the Daily Pilot Water Polo Dream Team and the All-Pacific Coast League first team in 2016, and second-team all-league in 2015 and 2016. Helped CdM win three Pacific Coast League water polo titles.

Nicole Lin

Sport: Swimming

Honors: Won the Pacific Coast League championship in the 50-yard freestyle in 2015 and 2016. Part of the CdM relay team that won the 400-yard freestyle in an All-American time of 3:29.82 at a league meet in 2015.

Kennedy Mulvaney

Sport: Lacrosse, soccer

Honors: Led CdM to an undefeated Pacific Coast League lacrosse championship and the quarterfinals of the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division playoffs in 2017. Named the league MVP in lacrosse in 2016 and 2017.

Raquel Powers

Sport: Cross-country, track and field

Honors: Named the Daily Pilot Cross-Country Dream Team Runner of the Year. Placed fourth at the CIF Southern Section Division 3 finals, helping CdM finish fourth as a team. Finished 19th at the CIF State Division III finals, helping CdM place 13th as a team.

Will Rodosky

Sport: Water polo, swimming

Honors: Made the Daily Pilot Water Polo Dream Team in 2015 and 2016. Earned the Pacific Coast League MVP award in water polo, as well as All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 first team and All-Orange County second team honors in 2016.
