Breakers off to hot start

The Newport Beach Breakers improved to 2-0 after pulling off another tight win, 20-19, against the Springfield Lasers Wednesday night in Springfield, Mo.

Anne Keothavong won win women’s singles and women’s doubles with Marie-Eve Pelletier.

Pelletier and Travis Rettenmaier scored a 5-4 win over Carly Gullickson and Paul Hanley in mixed doubles to seal the win.

The Breakers will play at the St. Louis Aces Thursday night. They return to The Tennis Club Newport Beach Saturday when Pete Sampras will play for the team as its marquee player against the New York Sportimes.

Martina Hingis is expected to play for the Sportimes.
