LONG BEACH — Junior CoCo Goodson’s first-half goal propelled the No. 15-ranked Anteaters to the Big West Conference victory at George Allen Field Thursday.
Goodson converted a one-touch pass from Tanya Taylor into the lower right side of the goal in the 42nd minute.
Devon Delarosa initiated the play with a cross to Taylor to set up the score. It was Goodson’s fifth goal of the season.
Coach Scott Juniper’s UCI team, 14-1-2 overall and 6-0 in the Big West, has won 11 straight games and is undefeated in the past 14. The ‘Eaters have taken a strong grip on the conference lead with 18 points and two matches left on the regular-season schedule.
Senior keeper Danielle de Seriere recorded her ninth shutout of the season and is now tied for the UCI career lead of 29 with Stephanie Boes (1993-96). De Seriere had one save Thursday and ranks third all-time at UCI with 246.
UCI outshot the 49ers, 8-7, in the “Black & Blue†Rivalry game. The ‘Eaters had eight corners to Long Beach State’s four.
The win by UCI snapped the 49ers’ seven-game undefeated streak as Long Beach State falls to 10-4-2 overall and 3-1-1.
UCI returns to action Sunday with a 6 p.m. match at UC Riverside.
The Anteaters close out the regular season Oct. 31 by playing host to Cal State Fullerton at 1 p.m.
