San Diego Highlander Tournament
LA MESA — Junior Ally Pantoskey scored the go-ahead goal and senior Stephanie Storch scored twice as Newport Harbor High defeated San Diego Westview, 3-1, to win the championship at Helix High Saturday.
The Sailors won four games Friday and Saturday to reach the final, including a defeat of Mission Hills, 1-0, in the semifinals.
The Sailors scored 20 goals and gave up none leading to the final. But Westview scored first in the final, on a penalty stroke midway through the first half.
The Sailors responded with three goals in the second half to secure the win.
Senior Sydney King sparkled in goal for the Sailors (16-2) with eight saves in the final.
Newport Harbor plays host to Westminster Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. at Harper Park

COSTA MESA — Wyatt Ferris scored the game-winning goal in sudden-death overtime to help lead the Costa Mesa High boys’ water polo team to a 9-8 win over La Quinta in the inaugural Costa Mesa tournament Saturday.
Ferris’ goal helped the Mustangs (6-12) finish 13th out of 16 teams. Ferris had three goals, as did Jamie Sacco, while James Lewis had two goals and Brian Lozano scored one. Goalie Mitchell Grandia recorded eight saves.
Ferris scored five goals in Mesa’s 13-4 win earlier Saturday. Sacco had four goals and Lewis scored three. Grandia had nine saves.
Edison won the tournament, beating Fountain Valley, 10-9, in sudden-death overtime. The Chargers were served a free dinner from Newport Rib Co., Costa Mesa Coach Justin Taylor said.
