Lights to turn on at Farm

The Costa Mesa Farm Sports Complex will be all lit up Thursday night.

The city of Costa Mesa and the American Youth Soccer Organization Region 120 are having a ceremony for the installation of lights on two soccer fields. The city council and AYSO board of directors are going to turn the lights on at 8 p.m. and the community is invited to attend the short ceremony.

The complex is located off Fairview Road, next to Costa Mesa High and across the street from Orange Coast College.

The AYSO, which has been using the fields at the complex since it opened in 1998, raised $185,000 and donated the money to the city to install the final phase of sports lighting at the complex, according to a city press release.

The release added that the new lights are expected to provide youth groups 400 additional hours of practice time in the late fall, winter and early spring each year.
