Breakers suffer first loss

The Newport Beach Breakers suffered its first loss, falling, 21-20, on the road to the St. Louis Aces Thursday night.

Travis Rettenmaier and Lester Cook won in men’s doubles, 5-4, and Anne Keothavong won in women’s singles, 5-2, for the Breakers (2-1).

The Aces’ Maria Sanchez and Liezel Huber scored a 5-3 win over Anne Keothavong and Marie-Eve Pelletier in women’s doubles to secure the team win.

The Breakers play at Kansas City Friday night and will then return to the Tennis Club Newport Beach, when Pete Sampras will be the marqee player against the New York Sportimes. Martina Hingis is expected to play for New York.
