Dog days of summer
It’s summer fun for dogs at Three Dog Bakery’s 13th annual summer bash from noon until 3 p.m. Saturday at Corona del Mar Plaza in Newport Beach. Take your furry, four-legged friends so they can enjoy splashing in a pool, free doggy cake, photos and giveaways.
If you choose to purchase a picture of your dog taken with a surf-themed backdrop, proceeds will benefit an animal rescue group.

Benefit divorcées, charity

Make it over to the Divorcée Sale this Friday through Sunday at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, a charity shopping event featuring coveted resale designer apparel, handbags and fine jewelry, diamonds and pearls at a fraction of their original price.
The concept is a cathartic experience for divorced women to start fresh, shed memories from their former life and help a much-needed cause — 25% of the proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (https://www.bcrfcure) and Meredith Israel, (https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/meredithisrael) an inspiring advocate for breast cancer survivors.
Founder Jill Alexander isn’t divorced; however, she understands fashion (she’s a former Tory Burch manager) and created the Divorcée Sale, a traveling shopping event most recently at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles, as a way to benefit divorcées, charities and shoppers. The sale is held in the Pacific Ballroom and valet is complimentary.
The pre-sale starts Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.; tickets cost $25, and each guest will receive champagne and a special gift bag. Culinary challenge
The first Farm to Food Truck Challenge kicks off Saturday during the SoCo Certified Farmers’ Market in Costa Mesa from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The foodie event will feature more than 20 gourmet food trucks in a Food Network TV show “Chopped”-style competition.
Each food truck must use ingredients from the farmers market, plus a protein of their choice.
Competitors have one hour to gather ingredients and then whip up a culinary masterpiece. Food trucks ready to compete include the Lime Truck, the Flip Truck, Slap Fish, Barcelona OntheGo, Piaggio, Dos Chinos, Chomp Chomp Nation, Adobo Express, Bakery Truck and Oh For Sweets Sake.
A panel of top foodie judges (including yours truly) will crown the winner the Top Chop Truck.
The ingredient hunt starts at noon, food prep at 1 p.m., judging at 2 p.m., with the winner announced at 2:30 p.m. The festivities will also include live music and kid-friendly activities. Followers of fashion
Budding fashionistas can take part in a summer camp that caters to kids as young as eight up to college-age students who are interested in following their fashion dreams.
Fashion Camp OC is currently offered at the OC Mart Mix in Costa Mesa, giving young fashionistas the knowledge and tools needed to tap into their creativity, learn about design and style and take part in a “Project Runway”-type competition.
It’s also designed to promote self-confidence and hone fashion skills, including merchandising, special events, fashion shows and visual displays.
The camp series was founded by Erin Bianchi, a fashion industry veteran, who is also a part-time fashion instructor at Orange Coast College.
The camps are designed for juniors (ages 8 to 12); teens (ages 13 to 17); and college students (18-plus). Fashion Camp costs $250, plus a $50 material fee.
There are several weeks of camps available through the week of Aug. 8, which is the advanced week. It’s designed for students who may want to take a second week of camp, so all activities are unique from previous weeks. To register and find out more information, visit https://www.fashioncampoc.com.
