Letters to the Editor: Despite one complaint, 1980s concert was enjoyed by the H.B. community

Re. “’80s concert was, like, too loud for neighbors,” (May 15): I am the promoter of the Like Totally 80s Festival. I live in the mobile homes across from the event, and we had nothing but rave reviews from the residents here. Users of Nextdoor.com, which is a community sounding board, reacted positively.

This one person’s voice should not be the only thing you post. We had 4,000 attendees, and a handful of unhappy people is to be expected, but this was a huge success, and the neighborhood has stopped me in the street to say they enjoyed the show.

Desalination may harm local sea life

Thousands of tiny bean clams glistening in various hues that usually live just under the sand washed up pier-side in Newport Beach (“Thousands of clams crowd the shore in Newport Beach,” May 18). They are always there, being common to the area, but usually not as visible.

Unfortunately, these are the same bean clams that could be destroyed if Poseidon succeeds in building its $1 billion desalination plant in Huntington Beach.

Peotter disrespected Stop Polluting Our Newport

Councilman Scott Peotter continues to behave as though the rules do not apply to him. After voting in support of the Museum House, he published an editorial in the Daily Pilot in which he made this comment about the environmental organization SPON: “I like to spell it SPAWN (Still Pouting And Whining in Newport)”.

What kind of respectful person says that? It is time to restore respect and integrity to the Newport Beach City Council. It is time to recall Scott Peotter.

Congressman refuses to meet with constituents

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher’s regard for Russia may or may not be accurate, but his disregard for his people in Orange County means we do not have a representative in Washington who can interact with those in Orange County. He has consistently exhibited his disregard for his constituents. He has refused to meet with concerned citizens in his local office.

Headline took my position out of context

My May 20 letter was titled, “Now that she’s a lobbyist, I regret voting for Boxer.” That is wholly incorrect. I would have voted for former Sen. Barbara Boxer and against her right-wing, Republican opponents in every one of her elections. Admittedly, I would have trouble voting for her now, but she is not running for office at this time. I would vote for another Democratic challenger, if she changed her mind.
