Documentary about 1/5 Marines showing in Triangle Square
COSTA MESA — The city will host a pre-screening Friday of a movie following Costa Mesa’s adopted Marine battalion into the frontlines of the Afghanistan war.
The movie, “Patrol Base Jaker,†follows the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines into their tour in Afghanistan’s Nawa district in 2009 and 2010. It will be shown at 7 p.m. at Triangle Square Cinemas, 1870 Harbor Blvd.
The film was named best documentary at the 2011 GI Film Festival and was dedicated to the 1/5’s Lance Cpl. Donald Hogan, who received the Navy Cross and was killed in Afghanistan in 2009.
The movie’s producer and director Dave Scantling and Col. Robert Castellvi of the 1st Marine Division will discuss the movie after the showing.
Tickets for the movie with popcorn and a soda are $25, or $20 for the film only. Proceeds go to support the Socks for Heroes program and the 1/5 Support Group.
