ARTHUR EMIL SVENDSEN

Arthur Svendsen was born December 12, 1923 in Portland, Oregon to Emil and Kirsten Svendsen. He attended the University of Oregon where he studied business and history and joined Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He proudly served in the Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the Pacific Arena until the war ended. Upon his return, he attended UCLA and found himself again active in his fraternity. Shortly after graduation, Arthur founded Standard Pacific Homes, where he served as Chairman and CEO for nearly forty years. He grew Standard Pacific to become one of the largest and most successful publicly traded homebuilding companies in America. His full life included time at the Vintage Club in Indian Wells, Big Canyon Country Club, the Whackers Golf group, and the Newport Harbor Yacht Club. As a trustee of Chapman University, Art gave his time to educational and business establishments and served on several boards. Arthur was known for his dependable honesty, gentle yet secure nature and his willingness to help others. His respected leadership will be remembered and admired. He leaves behind his loving wife, Mardy and their children~ his son Robert & wife Kate Svendsen; daughters Cindy Powell, Tami Herbert, Julie Robinson, Lisa Currier, and Vicky Julesguaard. His grandchildren will miss him greatly as he always gave them encouragement to achieve their goals and dreams in life. His grandchildren are Nick, Ashley, Scott & Ryan Svendsen, Beth Powell, Spencer & Amanda Herbert, Michelle Wisniewski, Kristen Wagner, and Chris, Matt, Stephanie, Jeff & Amy Julesguaard. Arthur will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a true gentleman.
