Arraignment for Irvine woman pushed to Oct. 28

An Irvine woman charged with running a red light and killing an elderly woman in a January car crash in Irvine will be arraigned in late October, according to court records.

Laurie Ane Keen, 43, was charged last month and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday but had it delayed until Oct. 28.

Keen was released from custody Friday on her own recognizance under the condition she does not commit any vehicle code infractions and drives with a valid license and insurance, said Deputy District Attorney Nancy Hayashida.

Prosecutors claim that on Jan. 18 Keen was southbound on Culver Drive and approaching Farwell Avenue when she ran the red light, hitting 77-year-old Patricia Thompson-Yates as she made a legal left turn. Thompson-Yates died at the hospital, and Keen was uninjured.

Keen is accused of being distracted while driving. Prosecutors would not elaborate on how she was allegedly distracted.

She faces a maximum of six years in prison if convicted.
