COSTA MESA — Gov. Jerry Brown has appointed a longtime Santa Ana official to the Orange County Fair Board.

Gerardo Mouet, the executive director of Santa Ana’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency since 2004, is the Fair Board’s newest member, the governor’s office announced Tuesday in a news release. Mouet, 53, has served in multiple positions for Santa Ana since 1990.

In 2007, Mouet received the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Active Living by Design Leadership Award, and has been a speaker at the National Assn. of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.

The Democrat’s term on the board ends in 2015. He’s replacing Mary Young, whose term technically ended in January. Mouet is Brown’s second appointment to the fair board this year.

The governor appointed Orange County Employees Assn. General Manager Nick Berardino to the board earlier this month as a replacement for Alex Vellandi.

Board members Dale Dykema’s and Gary Hayakawa’s terms expire next year.
