Three armed robberies reported

Three people were robbed at gunpoint separately in the Newport-Mesa area Sunday night and Monday morning, police said.

About midnight Sunday, a 30-year-old Costa Mesa man was walking in the 1700 block of Orange Avenue when two men approached him, said they had a gun and then demanded his wallet, said Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Phil Myers.

When the man replied that he was not carrying his wallet, the robbers patted him man down, and stole his cell phone and a pack of cigarettes, Myers said.

About 50 minutes later, a 39-year-old Costa Mesa man was robbed in the 2500 block of Newport Boulevard by two men who emerged from the shadows of a nearby business, Myers said.

One of the two men revealed a gun in his waistband and stole the victim’s cell phone and wallet, Myers said.

In Newport Beach, a man was walking down Bristol Street toward Jamboree Road about 2:45 a.m. Monday when two men approached him, including one armed with a gun, said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach police spokeswoman.

It was unclear what was stolen from the man, Lowe said.

Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the incident.

The two men suspected in the Costa Mesa crimes were described as male Latinos between 19 and 30 years old. One of the suspects is believed to be 5-feet-9 and 220 pounds. The other is 5-feet-5 and about 120 pounds. Both were believed to have shaved heads.

They were last seen wearing sweatshirts with dark pants.
