Man taken into custody after attempting to take deputy’s gun
COSTA MESA — A man was taken into custody at John Wayne Airport on Friday afternoon after trying to take a sheriff deputy’s gun, authorities said.
About 2:45 p.m., an unidentified man in the departure gate area tried to remove the deputy’s handgun from its holster, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
The officer “managed to take control†of the man, who was soon taken into custody. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, according to the release.
Authorities said the man, whose identity was not released, was being questioned. Officials said they believe it was an isolated incident.
