Car fire spreads to Costa Mesa home
Fire from an engulfed car spread and damaged a Costa Mesa home late Wednesday morning, officials said.
Firefighters from Costa Mesa and Santa Ana extinguished the blaze at 2072 Phalarope Court some 20 minutes after receiving the report at 11:36 a.m. by neighbors.
No injuries were reported, and the exact damage is unknown as of Wednesday. The cause of the car fire was under investigation.
A Volkswagen SUV, parked in the driveway, was on fire by the time fire crews were able to gain control of the blaze. The car’s flames spread to the home’s garage and some of its interior, and also ignited gasoline running from the vehicle into the street, neighbor Janie Berger said.
Five fire engines, a truck, a Costa Mesa battalion chief and about 20 others responded to the fire at the home south of Adams Avenue and north of Fairview Park. Four responders from the Santa Ana Fire Department were also on the scene with an air and light unit.
