D.A. against parole for man who killed infant
The Orange County district attorney’s office expects to fight against parole Tuesday for a Costa Mesa man convicted of killing a 7-month-old.
Anthony Mahmoud Fathi, 52, was convicted in 1985 of punching his girlfriend’s son in the stomach while she was in the shower, prosecutors allege.
The blow caused fractured ribs, an internal 5-centimeter tear, swelling to the abdomen and bleeding to the rectal area, later leading to the child’s death, according to a D.A. news release.
On the day Fathi punched the boy, Nov. 29, 1983, the boy’s mother noticed injuries to his stomach and that the child had difficulty breathing, and took him to the hospital. He died a day later.
His parole hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. The D.A. is opposed to the possibility of paroling Fathi.
