COSTA MESA — The Capital Grille, a new upscale steak house at South Coast Plaza, is open for business.

The restaurant is part of a chain that started on the East Coast and is known for its dry-aged steaks, seafood and wine selection. The Capital Grille’s Costa Mesa location opened 5 p.m. Monday, becoming the chain’s second restaurant in California; the other is in Beverly Hills.

The Costa Mesa location had already done a soft opening and was serving guests last week.

The 9,500-square-foot steakhouse occupies the second story of the building that used to house the former Clubhouse restaurant, which closed at end of 2009. Seasons 52, another new restaurant at South Coast Plaza, which opened in August, occupies the building’s first floor.
