Party honors firefighters, lifeguards

On Thursday, members of the community celebrated the 13th annual Fire & Lifeguard Appreciation Beach Party at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Locals listened to a performance by MPG and enjoyed a barbecue dinner and bonfire while mingling with Mayor Keith Curry, Newport Beach Police Chief Jay Johnson and various Newport Beach City Council members.

The night also included an awards ceremony, where individuals were honored for their services to the city: Ryan Popovich won Firefighter of the Year; Brian O’Rourke, Marine Safety Officer of the Year; and Randy Lempert, Seasonal Lifeguard of the Year.
