Jacquelyn Ann Weybright Libbey
Jackie was born in Brush, Colorado and raised in Ontario, California.
She attended Chafee High School and graduated from UCLA with a degree
in Graphic Design.
While at UCLA she was editor of the Daily Bruin and president of her
sorority Delta Delta Delta. Upon graduating she took a job as the first
female director of design for JCPenney. Not long thereafter she met her
husband Louis Libbey, unfortunately a Trojan, and they were happily
married for 58 years.
In the early 1950’s Jackie and Lou settled in Newport Beach to raise
their family. During this time she ran a small business called Fun’n’Fabrics,
continued her design work and was involved with several charities. She
was a charter member of the Newport Beach Assistance League and
The Newport Beach Service League. Jackie played a key roll in the
fundraising projects for the Coffee Garden (now Sherman Gardens) and Hoag
Memorial Hospital. She was the inspiration behind the original Candy Cane
Ball benefitting The Hospital. She and her husband are founding members
of Hoag’s 552 Club.
Jackie was a long time member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
As Newport Beach grew, she moved across the bay to help start St. Mark
Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon for several years.
Jackie was a full time mom but she still found time to be one of the first
women in California to receive a subcontractor’s license. She and her
longtime friend Tom Moss went on to build many of the homes in what is
now Dover Shores and Bay Crest.
She is survived by her husband Lou, son Chip. daughter Trish, son-in-law
Brooke and grandsons Halden and Everett.
At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers the family
requests donations be made to the Hoag Memorial Hospital Jackie Libbey
Cancer fund or the California Province of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits).
