Not Just Another Cinderella Story

It’s not always easy to freshen up a classic. From animated movie to musical, from television film to full-length feature, Cinderella has inspired the imagination of countless creative minds. So just how does Ballet Repertory Theatre’s Artistic Director Anthony Sellars once again revive the storybook favorite? In one word: magic. Sellars draws from his dancers an energy and a spirit that allow adults and children alike to believe in fairy tales again. He does away with useless pantomime and encourages expression through grace and rhythm. He blends slapstick humor with sweet romance, never forgetting to challenge his dancers with dizzying turns and daring lifts. Cinderellas Taryn Nowels and Elle Macy fully embrace the challenge as they gently sink or boldly leap into the arms of their prince, Guest Artist Christopher Sellars, Soloist from Utah’s Ballet West. Add a hilarious pair of stepsisters, an adorable fairy godmother, a sprightly jester, colorful season fairies, a waltzing corps de ballet, and...voilà! Cinderella becomes a real person, just like composer Sergei Prokofiev intended: “I see Cinderella not only as a fairy tale character, but also as a real person, feeling, experiencing, and moving among usâ€. And so the story goes... Once upon a time, there was a regional company named Ballet Repertory Theatre that dreamed of dancing for Orange County audiences. And so one day, the Huntington Beach company went to a beautiful venue, the Rose Center Theater in Westminster, and danced for patrons of all ages. The next day, it all felt like a dream. Only it wasn’t a dream at all, because they danced again and heard the applause as they took their bows. And they continued to dance happily ever after...

So leave your worries behind and discover the magic this weekend!
