Trio named to training team

Coroan del Mar High’s Pippa Saunders, Alex Musselman and Cassidy Papa led a group of 33 girls from Southern California that were selected to train with Team USA’s 16U Water Polo National Team.

USA Water Polo held its Southern California Regional Championships last weekend at Haldeman Pool on the campus of Pomona College in Claremont.

The 3-day tournament served as a selection camp for the USA Women’s Water Polo Olympic Development Program (ODP).

The girls will join players from across the United States at this summer’s 2010 national training camp.

Saunders won the tournament’s Top Player Award. She was part of last year’s 16U team.

Musselman and Papa were selected to the national training team for the first time.

All three girls competed in the tournament as members of Team USA’s Southern Pacific Zone Team.
