HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sophomore right fielder Katrina Gaar went three for four with two runs and a run batted in to help the Pirates snap a 47-game losing streak in the Orange Empire Conference Wednesday.

Through five games, Gaar, a Corona del Mar High product, is hitting .684 (13 for 19) with nine runs and eight RBIs from the leadoff spot.

Stephanie Engle went three for four with a run and two RBIs for OCC (4-1, 1-0 in conference), which last conference win came April 13, 2007.

TORRANCE — Troy Tomasello had 12 kills, three aces and six blocks for the Pirates in their 30-13, 30-18, 30-22 nonconference win Wednesday.

Brad Hemmerling had 10 kills and three aces, while Paul Leon had 31 assists and two aces for OCC (2-0)

CYPRESS — Amanda Deal scored 13 points for the Pirates in their Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday night.

Samantha Hansen had 12 points for OCC (15-12, 4-6 in conference).

FULLERTON — Mikah Maly-Karros had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Wednesday night.

Rebecca Maessen and Keyonna Johnson had 12 points each for UCI (8-16, 5-6 in conference).

Mya Olivier hit a shot with 1.6 seconds left to give the Titans (11-13, 6-5) the win.

PALOS VERDES ESTATES — The UC Irvine women’s golf team finished 12th in the 15-team event completed Wednesday at Palos Verdes Country Club.

The Anteaters were led by senior Henna Cho, who was 38th with a 54-hole total of 230.

Joy Trotter (44th at 231), Lalita Patipaksiri (49th at 232) and Hillary Packard (51st at 233) also stood out for UCI.

USC won the team title, 46 strokes ahead of UCI.
