CdM students learn safety
Fifth-graders at Harbor Day School happily got more than a handshake and certificate Tuesday for completing a fire department safety academy, when a few firefighters stopped by the school to show them how things work first-hand.
The Balboa Island fire engine crew stopped by the private school in Corona del Mar on a rainy Tuesday afternoon to congratulate the students who completed the fire department’s safety academy.
The academy, designed for fifth-graders, gives students some take-home assignments on designing a fire escape route for the family and reviews other basic fire safety tips.
Children also learn about disaster preparation and beach safety.
Before passing out their official certificates of graduation, firefighters showed them what they have to wear to emergencies.
“Information is power,†Capt. Carlos Medina told the students.
