Extra hole stalls ‘In God We Trust’ sign

Installing the sign bearing the “In God We Trust†motto behind the Costa Mesa council dais was delayed Monday after the company made an error.

Anaheim-based America’s Instant Signs drilled an extra hole on the sign that wouldn’t have looked good had it been installed that way, said Assistant City Manager Tom Hatch. The company, which received about $1,000 for the job, will have to make a new sign. The money to pay for the sign was donated to the city.

In November, the City Council voted unanimously to place the motto in Council Chambers, after Councilwoman Wendy Leece introduced the idea to her fellow council members. Leece also helped raise funds to pay for the cost.

The installation is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday in Council Chambers, 77 Fair Drive.
