Man suspected of causing car wreck
Police said a Santa Ana man who broke vertebrae in his neck during a multi-car crash Tuesday in Costa Mesa was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing the wreck.
Juan Delgado Jr., 33, was southbound on the 55 Freeway when he started to lose control of his 1999 Acura TL and braked too hard, causing the car to skid sideways, police said. The car hit three vehicles that were waiting for the red light at 19th Street, police said.
Delgado broke vertebrae and a rib and was rushed to Santa Ana’s Western Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. David Moore, 54, of Palm Desert, was in his Mercury Mountaineer when he was hit and suffered facial trauma and had teeth knocked out, according to police. Verity Hobbs, 66, of Newport Beach, was in her Honda Element when she was hit but was uninjured.
Kirk Fletcher, 42, of El Dorado, was driving a GMC U-Haul truck when he was hit and suffered a cut to his arm.
Delgado was arrested on suspicion of DUI and causing injuries.
