Driver crashes SUV into building
A Newport Beach man is being held on $10,000 bail after police said he drunkenly drove into a building Tuesday morning, causing at least $75,000 in damage.
Mark David Goodman, 41, was arrested about 5:35 a.m. after driving his SUV onto the East Coast Highway sidewalk near Marguerite Avenue, hitting a tree, a sign and a planter, police said. Goodman got back onto the street and went off the road a few blocks later, authorities said.
At 3100 E. Coast Hwy., Goodman took out a tree, sign and front end of a building, police said. His SUV ended up about a quarter of the way inside the building, Fire Department officials said.
Emergency workers kept the building sound by putting in a load-bearing beam.
Goodman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and police may add a hit-and-run suspicion, Lt. Craig Fox said.
Goodman is scheduled to be arraigned today.
