Macdonald, Charlotte Mary, Beloved

wife, mother, grandmother, and

friend died January 26, 2010 in Huntington

Beach. Born July 10, 1925,

the daughter of Donald S. Williams

and Flavia Sodergren Williams, Charlotte

grew up in Los Angeles, where

she graduated from Dorsey High

School. Charlotte was active in Alpha

Delta Pi at the University of Southern

California, where she met Tyler Macdonald.

After a brief courtship, they married in 1947. They

first lived in Los Angeles, moved to Arcadia, then Newport

Beach, and had four children—Sheridan, Priscilla, John, and

Peter. They divorced in 1968. Charlotte loved sailing, tennis,

and interior design. She was a member of the National

Charity League, and dedicated years of service in Alcoholics

Anonymous. She worked for many years as a professional in

substance recovery services, and in 1983 assisted former First

Lady Betty Ford open the center bearing her name in Palm

Desert. In 1996, Charlotte moved to Baja California, then

married Grant Hoel, and they lived there until Grant’s passing

in 2005, when she returned to Orange County. She was proceeded

in death by her daughter Sheridan, and is survived by

her three remaining children and eight grandchildren. A memorial

service for family and invited guests conducted by the

Atlantis Society aboard the White Light will be on Saturday,

February 20 at 11 a.m. In lieu of fl owers, the family requests

that memorial donations be made to the Betty Ford Center

Foundation, 41990 Cook Street, Palm Desert, CA 92211.
