CARLENE CARTER WALTON
Passed away December 6, 2009 at the age of 76.
Born July 18, 1933 in Los Angeles, the family soon moved to Burbank,
California. Known by her nickname of “Tickey”, she was very active at
Burroughs High School where she held many school offices, was selected
as a Song Leader and elected Senior Prom Queen. Carlene then attended
Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in Religious
Studies from California State University, Northridge.
She met her husband, Chuck, in high school and they were married for 56
years. They spent great times living in married student housing at USC,
while Chuck was attending architectural school, becoming lifelong “Trojans”.
After USC, the couple moved to Glendale, where she was instrumental in
helping her husband build an architectural practice. Active in many civic and
charitable organizations such as Las Candelas and Women of Vision, she
was named Glendale’s “Young Woman of the Year”. After Chuck retired,
they moved to Newport Beach making many new friends and enjoying trips
to Israel and building a ranch home in Oregon.
She is survived by the most important part of her life - her family. Her loving
husband Chuck, her four beautiful children: Mark, Tracy, Christopher, and
Michael and their spouses Andrea, Michael, Geni and Jena and fourteen
adoring grandchildren: Ashley, Alexandra, Alyssa, Mallory, Claire, Joseph,
William, Calyn, Wyatt, Samuel, Lily, Miles, Carter, MacKenna and new great
grandson Jake. Grandma was the center of her children’s lives and she
showered each one with love, advise, care and a passion for life.
On November 23, 2009, Carlene was diagnosed with acute leukemia. She
began chemotherapy two days later but developed complications with
pneumonia. She was blessed by many loved ones that visited her.
A memorial service celebrating Carlene’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on
Monday, December 14, 2009 at Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on
15th Street and St. Andrew’s Road, Newport Beach, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Carlene’s memory
be made to the Carlene Walton Memorial Fund for World Vision - Source
