Sunday morning’s editorial regarding redirecting the Disney air traffic to Ontario (“Think through this airport idea”) misses the point. People who go to Disneyland spend their money at Disneyland — period.

They are not coming to Fashion Island or South Coast Plaza to shop.

The only economic benefit our area gets from their travel to and from the Anaheim area is money directly to John Wayne Airport and air carriers.

Further, this idea has not been that of AirFair’s — although they do support the broader perspective of having airports with sufficient capacity take the pressure off of JWA to expand further.

This plan, along with other regional transportation elements, has been the proposal of Peggy Ducey, who has been working on this for nearly a decade.

Her regional overview is an all-inclusive plan that will potentially bring high-speed rail, maglev and high occupancy vehicles into intermodal transportation hubs such as the Irvine Transportation Center and the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center and then to the most appropriate airports.

And although there are no formal agreements in place with Disneyland, the Walt Disney Co. already has travel package programs in place at Disney World.

Sharing the million-plus passengers with Ontario International Airport gives them the much needed increase in passengers, takes the added burden off JWA and allows for good travel incentives for out-of-the-area Disney patrons. This is a win-win for both airports and Disney.

Science needs reason, logic

I read with amusement the religious leaders responding to your question about whether or not they would recommend reading Darwin’s book (In Theory, Dec. 5).

All of them believe that, at least in some way, God created man, when Darwin proved that man, in fact, is descended from other life forms.

Scarcely a serious scientist can be found who does not believe in Darwinism, Pastor Ric Olsen’s references notwithstanding.

You would have thought the Scopes trial settled all these arguments decades ago, but apparently not. Religion is based on blind faith and has nothing to do with science, reason or logic.

Religious people cannot expect reasonable people to believe in God and religion, when they so disingenuously disregard established scientific facts.
