Burglary was just a misunderstanding
When Newport Beach police arrested a local mom and her two sons for allegedly burglarizing her ex-husband’s home, it turned out it was all just a big misunderstanding, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Diane Breedlove, 53, and her two sons, Justin and Andrew Breedlove, apparently had permission from their father, Diane’s ex-husband James, to go in the house and clear out most things inside, Deputy Dist. Atty. Craig Cazares said.
The confusion all began when James, who is in federal custody on charges related to fraud, had a falling out with his current wife, Tracy, Cazares said. James was in custody and Tracy had moved to Texas when their home in the 300 block of Seaward Road in Newport Beach went into default, prosecutors said.
James called Diane and said they should go and get everything they can out of the house before it’s all lost, Cazares said.
The housekeeper, however, had no idea of the arrangement and called police when Diane and her sons began taking items, he said.
All charges have been dropped against the three.
