Newport Coast Teen Donates $500 to Human Options
Submitted by Barbara Kimler
At the core of Jewish values is Tzedakah (or charity). Thirteen year-old Jessy Berman and her mother Toni experience charity first hand through their volunteer work with nonprofit organization Human Options, a shelter for abused women and their children.
Over the past two years, the Newport Coast residents visited the shelter every three months with a Mother/Daughter group and they’ve hosted several “special occasion†events to brighten the days of the moms and their children who’ve fled their abusive homes.
For her Mitzvah Project, Jessy wanted to do something more for Human Options and came up with the idea of making and selling rings to raise money for the organization.
The sale of the rings was successful beyond her expectations raising $500 in just a few months.
Jessy said, “Not only was it fun to do but it warmed my heart to be able to donate this money to a worthy cause. The experience continues my lifetime commitment to Tzedakah.â€
