SURFING LAGUNA: What to do this summer on the water

With summer rapidly approaching it’s time to take a quick look at just a few of the ocean-related activities offered for Laguna Beach residents as well as their summertime guests.

Laguna Beach Junior Guard Program

This beach and ocean program is taught by Laguna Beach Lifeguards and is both educational and recreational. Participants will acquire a deeper appreciation and understanding of the opportunities and hazards associated with the marine environment.

A sense of teamwork, sportsmanship and self-confidence will be instilled through competition and exercises. Participants will learn about ocean safely, first aid, rescue techniques, body and board surfing, beach activities, fitness and marine safety operations.

The Ocean Institute, Dana Point

What kind of house does a hermit crab live in? Is a dolphin a fish or a mammal? This camp brings children’s literature to life as children meet characters from favorite ocean books and learn about a variety of marine critters. Each day, a book will introduce a new theme for the day’s activities. The program includes fun crafts and encounters with a variety of sea life.
