CdM trio earn awards to lead way for all-league

Corona del Mar High junior striker Reed Williams was named the Pacific Coast League Offensive MVP, sophomore Brian Ford shared Defensive MVP honors and senior Zak Maurer-Erickson was the Most Valuable Goalkeeper in boys’ soccer.

Williams, who has verbally committed to play for UCLA after he graduates from CdM in 2010, recorded 10 goals and four assists. He lifted the Sea Kings (8-8-4, 4-2-2 in league) to a runner-up finish in league and the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs.

Williams recorded three goals and two assists during CdM’s playoff run, which ended before it could reach the semifinals for the first time since 2003-04 season.

Ford played a vital role for the Sea Kings’ defense, helping CdM in a 3-0 shutout of Bishop Montgomery of Torrance in the first round of the playoffs. Ford also added three goals and three assists.

Maurer-Erickson recorded four league shutouts and allowed six goals in eight league matches.

Sea Kings receiving first-team recognition were senior defender Miles Kellerman (three assists, two goals) and freshman midfielder Grady Howe (five goals, two assists).

Players making the second team were senior defender Alfie Nowak and junior midfielder Paul Zubatov.
