PET OF THE WEEK

Jake and Pumpkin adopted from the Community Animal Network in January almost ended up euthanized, according to the organization’s founder, DiAnna Pfaff-Martin. The original foster family headed to the Phoenix Humane Society in Arizona to reclaim them.

Pfaff-Martin said a college student’s application was denied because it lacked documentation that confirmed pets were welcome in the student’s apartment.

“The student’s mother later arrived and satisfied the adoption requirements and we were told that the kittens would live in Irvine with the mother and a 13-year-old cat.

“We contacted the mother who adopted the kittens and she said that she gave the kittens to her family member in college in Phoenix because her old cat was unhappy. She claims to be unaware of the risk and claims that the Phoenix shelter assured her family that the kittens were very adoptable; however the relinquishing papers were signed giving the right to euthanize.”

Community Animal Network seeks donations to cover the cost to bring the kittens back and needs a new foster family. If you can help, call (949) 759-3646 or mail checks to Community Animal Network, P.O. Box 8662, Newport Beach, CA, 92658 and memo your check nonprofit tax ID 33-0971560.
