Marolt awarded for Sea Kings’ turnaround season
Corona del Mar High sophomore guard Kayla Marolt earned first-team All-Pacific Coast League laurels in girls’ basketball for improving the Sea Kings.
Marolt, who averaged 15 points and 3.5 steals per game, helped the Sea Kings finish 18-10, 3-6 in league. CdM won 11 more games than the prior season in which they failed to win a league contest.
CdM advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA playoffs, the program’s first playoff appearance in Mark Decker’s three years as the Sea Kings’ coach.
Junior forward Katie Bergsma made the second team for the second straight year. She averaged nine points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.
Lauren Engeln of Laguna Hills was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Year.
