HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP:
CORONA DEL MAR — A surprise came in the 10th minute, but the Corona del Mar High girls’ soccer team quickly responded to score a 3-2 victory over visiting Irvine in its Pacific Coast League opener Tuesday.
When sophomore Tessa Andujar scored in the 16th minute, the Sea Kings (6-2-6, 1-0 in league) grabbed back the momentum. Andujar put away a through ball from junior Hayley Raguse.
In the 29th minute, Corona del Mar grabbed the lead. Junior Lauren Smits delivered a bending free kick from about 35 yards out and junior Alexandra Reinach headed it in.
Junior Katie Deverian gave the Sea Kings a 3-1 lead after scoring in the 39th minute. Junior Nikki Flinn assisted on the goal.
Freshman Sarah Cox played in goal in the first half, recording two saves, while sophomore Lindsey Luke also had two saves as the goalie in the second half for CdM.
The Sea Kings will play against University Thursday at 3:15 p.m. at the Las Lomas Community Field in Irvine.
 
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Sage Hill 3, Oxford Academy 2
CYPRESS — Lightning junior Megan Kim scored two goals within the final 15 minutes to overcome a 2-1 deficit in the Academy League game Tuesday.
Kim also assisted on junior Jordan Team’s goal. Senior Isa-Maria Taskinen had both assists on Kim’s goals.
Junior goalkeeper Hannah McLeod goalie five saves for Sage Hill, which will play host to Whitney Friday at 3:15 p.m.
 
Costa Mesa 2, Godinez 0
COSTA MESA — Junior Natalie Argueta and senior Dana Gentling each scored a goal for the Mustangs in their Orange Coast League game at Estancia Tuesday.
Argueta’s goal was unassisted, while senior Brooke Urmson assisted for Gentling’s score. Mesa senior goalkeeper Jessica Rubright recorded two saves to help the Mustangs improve to 6-5-5, 1-0-1 in league.
 
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Costa Mesa 13, Downey 8
COSTA MESA — Senior two-meter player Ashley Rendon scored six goals in the Mustangs’ nonleague match Tuesday.
Kayci Decker recorded a hat trick for Costa Mesa (10-6).
Goalkeeper Danielle Bowen scored a goal from way out at the end of the first quarter. Bowen also made seven made saves.

CYPRESS — Senior Stephanie Garrison scored on a put-back with eight seconds left to lead the Lightning to the Academy League win Tuesday at Oxford Academy.
Garrison finished with nine points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Ava Soleimany also scored nine for Sage Hill (11-6, 2-1 in league). Senior Tierney Danner, who scored seven points, blocked Oxford’s final shot attempt.
The Lightning will play host to Whitney Friday at 6 p.m.
